@Richmond, VA – Crossroads Coffee Shop
Parked in VCU Garage until closing and then move to street. Coffee shop is the most tatoo and hipster place I’ve seen but also really, really nice. Outdoor patio with great wifi connection. Couch surfing later. Tomorrow: Raleigh.

Befriend the garage attendant by showing off the RV and get the daily $3.50 rate. On street parking is 2 hrs X-6pm, free after 6pm, a lot like DC. Richmond reminds me of Boston near Harvard Square except more ghetto but still nice. Like Phila rough around the edges but a lot of beautiful, colored buildings and people.

I forgot how weird it feels to talk to strangers even as a foreigner to the city.
Couch surfed in richmond. Sent one request and got a confirm. Talking to this guy Matt makes my RV look like a joke. He has sailed around the world in a boat for six months! Damm.
This area of richmond is pretty dead with VCU summer out. But went to a bar (cellar door?) which had some amazing white, male, hipster singers. Quality really good singers. I formed memories. Also a bartender told me how to wrestle a gator.
Richmond is like the secret of VA. It’s a nice city. Very hipster. Lot of bikes, motorcycles, tatoos, piercing, too short pants and lot of PBR (r stands for richmond according to matt). Most of all my image of the south is changing.
I also have to relearn my socializing without any friends or backup….
Despite a dozen or more requests I have nowhere to stay in raleigh. I might just sleep in the rv

@Crossroads again, leaving for Raleigh around 2pm
I think I need to restart my twitter account for all my ramblings to leave my brain.
Woke up in a new city in a house I don’t really know. And it struck me just the absurdity and craziness of what I’m doing, how I’m living. Each day, a new city where I don’t know a soul or anything there.
Part of me just wants to keep living indefinitely on the road. But another part of me also wants the stability of one home. Balancing diversity of experience with comfort/security.
I also know though that once I get to Orlando this all too brief little adventure will end. But doing this for a long time would become less and less valuable.

I really liked Richmond but wan’t sure what it was until this morning walking down Main Street.
There’s none of the usual commercialization. At least not in this niche of the city. There’s zero national brand stores. No McDonalds. No Starbucks. No crazy lights. Just nice house buildings in different colors and little, differentiating accents and wooden signs.
But this is a nice part of town. There’s plenty of ghetto here that as a young, professional guy with the freedom to travel does not see, or better put, chooses to not see.

My stomach’s been feeling weird lately. I think this change in diet from cooking at home almost every day, mostly meat and korean food to ordering out constantly with a lot of I assume carbs, veggie oil, and sub quality products is killing me.

Just realized my blog hasn’t been using time light savings so everything has been a hour off before.
Anyway. Finishing my work shift now and plan on leaving Richmond behind. I can sense a sore throat/cold developing though. I haven’t gotten a solid night of sleep in days now. Maybe I should nap in the RV. I also only ate one meal today….But I want to make it to Raleigh before rush hour, and it’s 3 hrs away.
I contacted a bunch of people through various internet social outlets aka Couch Surfing, Reddit, and FB. Only got one reply via Reddit and don’t want to follow it. Guess I’m going solo for first time.
My original housing with 2 sisters fell through and since have gotten a lot of random offers including a horse farm. But I think I got a 3 BD in Orlando for super cheap. Hopefully, I get it. The stress/adrenline of living on the street is a bit too much for me especially with this heat.

Not sure if my vibe is off or something but getting kinda rude service by bartenders and can’t for the life of me find a busy place not full of families

Umm yeah. So, got to Raleigh at a weird time. Nobody on the street even though this is considered the crazy young 20something/college area. Went to two bars and got cheap beer and bad service. Befriended some ppl but I just feel out of place. Rv is parked and probably going to nap and then head out again when it is busy. Goddamm it is hot in here though.
Probably don’t have to blackout my windows after all, forgot about city ambient light. Its bright inside just from lights outside

It has been a long, long time since I went out alone to bars and clubs. I don’t know why but girls come dancing up on when I’m solo. Maybe I’m asian? Maybe I’m half dancing by myself? I don’t know but it happens almost every time
Also interesting this idea of prior recognition. Hosts and bartenders remembering me from earlier and hooking me up.
Oddly enough, it is easy to start contact but nobody here seems interested in coninuing. Is it me? Guy or female.
From my little exp of raleigh, I don’t really like it. Their so called strip of bars is beat by phila or dc or baltimore.
Sleeping in rv tonight. The craziness of this trip only dawned on me tonight
Eat bkfast tomrw and head off to savannah. Sleeping in the rv tonight.

@rv
I’m just drawn to things everyone else avoids. That they think would be good but not willing to do themselves. Public speaking, improv, skydiving, starting biz, etc.
Two purchases for this rv have been horrible. 60 dollar fan stopped working and 150 dollar water bottle filter tastes like plastic. Hopefully can return.
My biggest fear is that the rv breaks down.. won’t start or tire blown. Brakes are going bad, shoulda fixed em in dover. I can’t do anything until I get to orlando. Hopefully rotors stay okay.
Thinking of buying a bike or motorcycle or some sort of small transit. The mph on this thing is horrible

@raleigh downtown morning times coffee shop
Only realized this morning how beat I’m looking haha. Need to shave, haircut, and stay out of the sun. I must look like a homeless hipster with gym shorts and tight v neck t.
Eating breakfast. Slept in the rv without a hitch except waking once or twice to noise outside. Thankfully was cooler at night.
Savannah is some 5 hrs away so I might just leave raleigh behind.

@savannah
Savannah is beautiful with tree lined streets, ancient homes, and nice tiny park squares. But I seem to be lethargic, border line depressed. Maybe I just need a nap. I just have no energy and missing companionship of my family and friends.
After DC, I believed I could make new friends anywhere. And that’s a part of what this trip is. But it isn’t going too well right now. I miss my bed. I guess I’m just fried out by the past week of constant movement and change

Well tonight was better than yesterday. Originally planned on just sleeping early in rv. been feeling lethargic and haven’t had a full nite sleep@
But unable to sleep so I went out. Talked to some random ppls about savannah and the south. I swear eveyone I meet isn’t from savannah and at least half are from north east.
Oddly, all too eager bride melts like butter in my arms until future husband shows up. I had no idea but befriended husband and went on. Everyone told me that seed is the good dancing bar but it was pretty shitty. Why don’t people actually dance?
Tomorrow is orlando after breakfast. Will ptob stop in jacksonville on way down. This lifestyle is absolutely insane. But then again, crazy is better than nothing.
I hope the rv is okay, I hit the curb ealier when turning

@Orlando.
The trip is done. Wednesday to Sunday from Delaware to Orlando.
If I had a prime real estate location, I could see myself living in Richmond or Savannah at least short term. Not sure about Raleigh.
I’ve got quite a unique living situation right now with 3 other roommates.
3.5 months…How funny. I lived in Newark for 5 months. History repeats itself.
@tallahasse, railroad sq outside Buddhist building. After being sleepy all day, of course I’m wide awake now. Not sure where I’m going to work tomorrow. 24/7 all saints cafe WiFi doesn’t work with my laptop…there is a public library though.
Ate some good Korean bbq and did meditation and koan interview. Walked around a little but didn’t see much.
